Tomato Premium Super F1 is a cross of two different varieties, designed to select the best traits from both parents. They produce fruits with have desirable traits including disease resistance, more dependable yields, and higher quality fruit. This hybrid cultivar is a product of HarvestField Industries Limited.

Practices for Tomato Premium Super F1 Plants

Tomatoes do very well in most soil types in Nigeria but better in a black loose loamy soil. Prepare the ground by clearing the grasses and rubble, loosen the soil with hand trowels and hoes. Remove the seeds from the tomatoes and spread them on the prepared soil. Tomatoes need to be planted deep in the soil. The practice of deep planting accomplishes two key things for tomato plants. Planting tomatoes deep in the soil helps plants develop additional roots to absorb more nutrients and moisture.

Water deeply and regularly while the fruits are developing. Irregular watering like missing a week and trying to make up for it leads to blossom end rot (a calcium deficiency) and cracking and splitting. The rule of thumb is to ensure your plants get at least 1 inch of water per week, but during hot, dry spells, they may need more. If your plants start to look wilted for most of the day, give them a drink. After the fruit begins to ripen, you can ease up on the watering. Lessening the water will coax the plant into concentrating its sugars, for better flavour. Use your judgment. Don’t withhold water so much that the plants continually wilt and become stressed or they will drop their blossoms and possibly their fruit.

The months of December, January, February and March can be the best months to plant tomatoes in Nigeria for some farmers. Farmers hoping to sell at high prices in May – July should cultivate their tomato crop between December and March. To harvest the fruits, grasp the fruit firmly, but gently, and pull from the plant by holding the stem with one hand and the fruit with the other, breaking the stalk just above the calyx that has formed to protect the bud. Once you’ve harvested the tomatoes, store them indoors to continue to ripen.
