Marketing and Branding
Branding
Branding is the sum of the impression you expect your target audience to perceive how your business is. That is, how you strategically execute all that you have learned from this training that will give your clients a feeling of true satisfaction.
Branding Presence
It is important that you know your target audience and know how to reach them. If your target audience are restaurants, that means you would have to do more of face to face publicity. If your target audience are family people (like those that have been instructed to feed on snail meat by doctors) that means you will need to do a lot of networking to be able to figure them out. And if social media is where your main target is, then it is very important that you put out engaging contents that will get people’s attention to your page and making enquiry about your business. You also need to pay attention to Customer Relationship Management
After this training, I encourage us to draft a Standard of Operation (SOP) regardless of the size of your farm. Have a unique selling point.
I advise that you be sincere with yourself and figure out what makes your stand and how consistent you would be able to do those things. You can have a brand ambassador that will help promote your business. So, I encourage us all, to have social media accounts and start creating awareness. Let people know you have a snail farm. Have a business logo, design stickers, and be unique.
Marketing and distribution.
Good marketing tips should encourage good product, price, packaging and promotion. You can even sell your snail shell to feedmill, snail meats to hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, export markets, and at ceremonies.
In conclusion, be at the top of your game. The market for snails is very large. Find your way and penetrate the market.
Questions From Participants
Question: “Do many snails have the power to pull the housing cage?” – Sir Levi
Response Check the pictures, there is a side flap (or twin-flap) attached to prevent them from climbing. Their weight at times may cause the net to tear. So, use strong net material.
Question: “Do we need to separate the houses for Af, Aa or Am?” – Saheed Adewale Lasisi
Response: Your system of housing determines whether you should separate them or not. Some ideas are in my ebook. You may separate them by removing the adults at intervals, when using the paddock system. Cage system is much easier.
Question: “How do you remove faeces in padlock system?” – Saheed A. Lasisi
Response: For the paddock system, the population is low (not usually more than 5/m²). So, the faeces serve as fertilizer.
Question:” How do you determine the population in padlock system?” – Saheed A.Lasisi
Response: You estimate. If you stock 200 Am per paddock, you should expect about three to four times increase in the number of snails in 3 months, and about six to ten times increase in the
number stocked in 6 months.
You may stock the adults to start with. You know that it will take about a month for them to adapt to the new environment. So if you leave them for 2-3 months, you may assume that the population of the young snails is about three times more.
Question: “Is fodder good for snails?” Kayode Ajayi
Response: Fodder feeding is good for ruminants because most of the plants used are highly fibrous, such as cereals (corn, rice, millets etc). However, it is possible to modify these plants to suit your snail nutritional needs. You can adapt the tech for vegetables (green, melon series etc) and other soft, tasty plants. I’m sure they’ll eat it but not sure how well. Though the leaves are tender, the fibre content is usually high. I think it won’t be a bad idea trying it.
Question: “How do you sustain the snail during the hot dry season?” – Tayo Shasanya
Response: During the dry season, ensure that the snail pen is moist and constantly wet your snails. If they are not dry, they will be fine.
